Moon Aspects in Astrology: Conjunctions, Squares and More

Knowing your Moon sign is like meeting your emotional self over coffee. Studying your Moon aspects is like moving in together and discovering who leaves cupboard doors open, who requires three business days to process an argument and who considers staring moodily through a window a perfectly valid form of communication.

Your Moon sign describes what makes you feel safe, how you instinctively react and what you need when the polished, socially acceptable version of you has gone home. Yet it does not work alone. The Moon forms relationships with other planets in your birth chart, and those relationships are known as aspects.

These aspects explain why two people with the same Moon sign can behave completely differently. Two people may both have a Cancer Moon, for example, but one has the Moon trine Jupiter and expresses warmth with remarkable ease, while the other has the Moon square Saturn and treats emotional vulnerability like an unexpectedly aggressive tax audit.

Neither chart is better. One simply contains a different emotional instruction manual.

If you are new to lunar astrology, begin with what your Moon sign really says about your emotional needs. If you already know your Moon sign but are unsure why it sometimes seems to contradict other parts of your personality, your Moon aspects may provide the missing explanation.
