Eclipse Magnitude
Eclipse magnitude describes how much of the Sun or Moon is covered during an eclipse.
For a solar eclipse, magnitude refers to the fraction of the Sun’s diameter covered by the Moon.
For a lunar eclipse, magnitude describes how deeply the Moon enters Earth’s shadow.
A higher magnitude generally means a deeper or more visually dramatic eclipse, although the exact experience still depends on location and eclipse type.
Astrologically, some practitioners interpret deeper eclipses as more intense, but there is no universal rule saying a visually dramatic eclipse must produce a dramatic personal event for every person.

What Is an Eclipse Season?
An eclipse season is a period of roughly five weeks during which the Sun is close enough to the lunar nodes for eclipses to occur.

Each season usually contains two eclipses, although occasionally there can be three.
Because solar eclipses happen at New Moons and lunar eclipses happen at Full Moons, eclipse season creates a sequence where one eclipse is often followed by another about two weeks later.
This can create:
- a solar eclipse followed by a lunar eclipse
- a lunar eclipse followed by a solar eclipse
- occasionally three eclipses across consecutive New and Full Moons
Astrologically, eclipse season is often treated as a period of acceleration, heightened awareness, turning points, unusual developments, and events that seem to move faster than expected.
That does not mean you should suspend all decision-making, cancel your plans, and hide beneath a blanket until the nodes move on.
It does mean that observation may be more useful than forcing certainty.

Why Eclipses Happen Near the Lunar Nodes
The lunar nodes are not physical objects.
They are mathematical points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, which is the Sun’s apparent path through the zodiac.
The North Node is traditionally associated with development, unfamiliar growth, direction, and qualities that require conscious movement.
The South Node is associated with familiarity, ingrained habits, the past, release, and patterns that may feel comfortable even when they are no longer useful.
Solar and lunar eclipses happen when the New Moon or Full Moon occurs close enough to one of these nodes.
This is why astrology often interprets eclipses as carrying a sense of direction, consequence, correction, or momentum.

What Is a Saros Cycle?
Eclipses belong to repeating families known as Saros cycles.
A Saros cycle lasts a little more than eighteen years, after which the Sun, Earth, and Moon return to a similar geometric arrangement and produce a related eclipse.
Each Saros family begins with small partial eclipses near one of Earth’s polar regions, gradually develops into central eclipses, and eventually fades out through partial eclipses near the opposite pole.
A single Saros family can last for more than a thousand years and contain many individual eclipses.
Astrologically, some practitioners study Saros families to understand recurring themes across eclipse sequences.
This can be useful for historical research, although it is more advanced than most readers need when first learning eclipse astrology.
For practical purposes, it is enough to know that eclipses are not isolated events.
They belong to long, repeating celestial families.
