The eclipse path begins over remote northern Siberia before crossing Arctic waters.
This portion of the path is geographically valid but extremely difficult for ordinary travellers. Sparse infrastructure, long distances and current travel restrictions or security considerations make it unsuitable as a casual eclipse destination.

Spain
Spain is the most accessible large country crossed by the eclipse and offers extensive areas of totality across much of the northern half of the peninsula and parts of the Balearic Islands.

Spain’s great advantage is its generally drier August climate.
Its great complication is that the eclipse occurs near sunset.
The farther east observers travel, the lower the Sun will be. This means an apparently perfect destination can fail simply because a hill, mountain ridge, apartment block or line of trees occupies the western horizon.
In Spain, the best observing site is not merely one inside the path.
It must also have a completely clear view toward the setting Sun.
Strong Viewing Regions in Spain
A Coruña and Galicia
A Coruña is among the first major Spanish cities to experience the eclipse. According to Spain’s National Geographic Institute, the partial phase begins at approximately 7:31 PM, maximum eclipse occurs at approximately 8:28 PM, and the eclipse ends around 9:22 PM, before local sunset at approximately 9:41 PM. Because the eclipse reaches Galicia earlier than eastern Spain, the Sun will be higher above the horizon than it will be in Valencia or the Balearic Islands.

León, Burgos and Castilla y León
The inland plains of Castilla y León are among Spain’s most practical eclipse regions because they combine totality, broad horizons and generally lower summer cloud risk than the northern Atlantic coast.
Areas surrounding León, Burgos and Valladolid may offer the flexibility to move according to local forecasts, but travellers must use authorised viewing areas and avoid private farmland, dry vegetation and roadside parking.
August wildfire danger will be a serious consideration. Cars should never be parked on dry grass, and access restrictions must be respected.
Best for: Open inland horizons, better weather probability and greater room to relocate.
Main concern: Heat, wildfire risk, rural traffic and limited services away from cities.
Zaragoza and the Ebro Valley
Zaragoza lies within the totality zone and is surrounded by relatively open, dry terrain.
The region is frequently discussed as a strong eclipse base because of its climate, transport connections and broad horizons. Nevertheless, observers should move away from buildings and confirm the exact western direction of the Sun.
Even in dry country, dust, haze or distant terrain can matter when the Sun is low.
Best for: Drier climate, accessibility and open landscapes.
Main concern: Heat, haze, crowds and urban obstruction.
Valencia Region
Parts of the Valencia region lie within totality, but the Sun will be extremely low above the horizon as the eclipse reaches its maximum.
The visual potential is extraordinary: a totally eclipsed Sun suspended in the colours of sunset.
The margin for error is almost nonexistent.
Observers need a genuinely unobstructed western or west-northwestern horizon, not a location that appears open until a distant ridge becomes visible five minutes before totality.
Best for: Better prospects of clear weather and a dramatic sunset eclipse.
Main concern: Very low Sun, haze and obstruction by even modest terrain.
Mallorca and the Balearic Islands
Parts of the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, are crossed by the totality path. The eclipse occurs close to sunset, so western-facing coastal sites may provide a dramatic view if the horizon remains clear.
Not every Balearic island lies equally inside the path, and travellers must verify their precise location using an authoritative eclipse map rather than assuming that being somewhere in the archipelago is enough.
The low altitude of the Sun remains the decisive issue.
